Intent
At Christ Church, our PSHE curriculum aims to equip every child with the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive as individuals and as valued members of our community. Rooted in our Christian ethos, we encourage children to develop a strong sense of self-worth, recognise the value and dignity of others, and understand how their choices and actions can make a positive difference to those around them.
At Christ Church School, it is our intent that the Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) and Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) curriculum delivers learning that is accessible to all and ensures children understand how to play a positive and successful role within our society, both now and in the future. We follow the Kapow Primary scheme for PSHE, adapted by staff at Christ Church to suit our children and our wider curriculum. It meets the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum and is reviewed annually by the subject leader.
Our Christian values underpin the way we approach PSHE, helping children to understand what it means to care for themselves and others, to forgive, to show kindness, to act with integrity and to celebrate the uniqueness of every individual. We encourage pupils to ask questions, make informed and responsible choices, and develop the confidence to navigate the opportunities and challenges they encounter as they grow.
We believe PSHE has a vital role in preparing children to become confident, compassionate and responsible citizens who contribute positively to our school, our local community in Purley and the wider world. Ultimately, we want every child to leave our school feeling valued, respected and empowered, with the knowledge, self-belief and life skills to make a positive difference in the lives of others.
